Dog euthanized after attacking 11-year-old in Dorchester

BOSTON — A dog that attacked an 11-year-old in Dorchester has been euthanized.

The dog, a brown and white pit bull, was humanely put down according to the city due to its involvement in the attack.

The incident happened shortly after 12 p.m. on Rock Terrace in Dorchester on Wednesday.

The boy’s family gave Boston 25 a handwritten note that said they are grateful for the police officer who rescued their son.

Boston police say an off-duty officer fired his gun to stop the attack, but it is not clear if the dog was hit.

Another dog is currently in the custody of Boston Animal Care and Control and authorities are investigating whether a second dog was involved in the attack.
