Day before Thanksgiving brings out last minute shoppers

At the Market Basket in Hudson, it is the 11th hour of the 11th month, on the day before Thanksgiving.

It is crunch time, and shoppers are well aware that precious pre-holiday time, is slipping away.

“What was the mission today, the day before Thanksgiving?” Bob Ward asked one shopper.

“I waited too long, had to get it in!” Matt Brodeur of Clinton told me.

So, with just hours to go, cashiers here are ringing up the last of the holiday essentials: turkey, sides, deserts.

But Suzie Rivera of Marlborough is switching things up this year, bringing something new to this year’s big Christmas dinner.

“You’re the ham lady!” Bob Ward said.

“I’m the ham lady, this year,” said Suzie.

“Anything exotic in your cart, other than ham and milk?”

“No,” Suzie laughed. “I have the rest at home! I said ‘I’m just going to pick up a couple of things,’ I actually went over.”

“I have a complete turkey dinner cooked. All I have to do is heat it up. I’m very thankful to have the people around me for support,” Debbie said.

For another local family, this will be a big and memorable Thanksgiving, older family members just flown in from India.

They are all getting ready to celebrate this very American holiday..

“Definitely that’s what we are thankful for, all our lives, whatever we dream, God gets, so that’s what America is all about,” Rohan Sovariwala of Grafton told me.

Betty Percuoco shopped with her daughter, Maryellen.

Betty is 94 years old. And she is making her mother’s Thanksgiving Day stuffing recipe.

“This recipe goes back a hundred years, this must be one heck of a recipe,” I asked.

“I don’t know, it’s easy,” Betty said.

“Is there a secret ingredient in it?”

“No, just a lot of love,” Betty said, smiling.
