DA: 16-year-old student killed in rollover crash in Berkley

TAUNTON, Mass. — A 16-year-old Rehoboth boy died Sunday morning as a result of injuries suffered in a single-vehicle crash in Berkley, Massachusetts, the Bristol County District Attorney’s office said.

According to the DA, the crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the vicinity of 76 Myricks Street.

The victim, identified by authorities as Dylan Quinn, was a passenger in a Mazda pickup truck being operated by a 16-year-old male friend, the district attorney’s office said.

When first responders arrived, they found that the vehicle had rolled onto its roof in the middle of the street.

Quinn was rushed to Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, where he was pronounced deceased, authorities said.

The driver, who was not immediately identified, was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the DA, the preliminary investigation indicates the two friends had just left a nearby Dunkin’ and were heading back to Quinn’s friend’s home when the crash occurred.

Investigators said the vehicle was traveling south when it struck a utility pole and a tree before rolling over and coming to rest back in the roadway.

Quinn was a student at Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School, according to superintendent Alexandre Magalhaes.

“We are all deeply saddened to hear of this tragic loss. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of this student and the entire school community,” according to Magalhaes’s statement. “Counselors will be available between the hours of 8 a.m. to noon tomorrow, Jan. 16, inside the B-P cafeteria to assist students and staff as the school community mourns the passing of this student. Counselors will also be available in the coming weeks for anyone needing their services.”
