Close call for 4 boaters, 2 dogs rescued off coast of Chatham

CHATHAM, Mass. — Four men and two dogs were rescued 11 miles off the coast of Chatham on Saturday, thanks to the quick action of Good Samaritans and the harbormaster.

The initial report came in for a report of a boat taking on water, east or Chatham, with 4 people on board according to the harbormaster’s office.

As the harbormaster responded, so did another boat.

A picture from the Chatham Harbormaster shows the boat flipped over in the water, after the rescue.

The four men were taken aboard the Good Samaritan boat before being transferred to the harbormaster’s rescue boat.

The deputy harbormaster told the Boston Globe that two dogs were also on the boat and were rescued as well.

The Globe reports the men are from New York and were on a fishing trip and that the plug on the boat failed before the boat started taking on water.

They were able to fire off a flare, and attracted the attention of a nearby passenger vessel.
