Deadly shooting in Roxbury park

ROXBURY, Mass. — Sky 25 shows the large swath of Orchard Park in Roxbury cordoned off by yellow crime scene tape. This as detectives scoured the scene looking for clues in a deadly Monday afternoon shooting inside the park. Boston Police found the victim as soon as they arrived.

“They located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound, the victim was transported to a local hospital by Boston EMS, where he was pronounced dead,” said Boston Police Superintendent Felipe Colon.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden inspected the scene with police saying he was upset after another shooting.

“Obviously, this is yet another tragic situation. Our hearts are heavy at this particular time,” said DA Hayden.

And the DA was well-aware this happened in a park normally filled with people and children.

“One of the obvious primary concerns would be the fact that this happened, uh, in a, in a public park,” said DA Hayden.

Neighbors tell Boston 25 they heard at least a dozen gunshots, some say it was an exchange of fire.”

“We’re processing a large, a fairly large crime scene that has ballistic evidence to include two firearms,” said Superintendent Colon.

Neighbors also say that when the gunshots began people including children took off running.

“As far as we’re told, there was no one else in the park at the time,” said DA Kevin Hayden.

After shootings on Friday in Revere and Roslindale, and again on Sunday in Charlestown, the DA says he knows why there is an apparent uptick in shootings.

“Well, let’s hope this is the end of the uptick I attribute to the fact that we have too many guns on the street,” said DA Hayden.

Boston Police have not released the name of the man who was killed. They are actively searching for his shooter and ask anyone in the public with information to call police.
