BPD arrest suspect in attempted sexual assault at Boston Public Garden

BOSTON — Detectives assigned to the Sexual Assualt Unit arrested a 30-year-old man from Boston in relation to an attempted sexual assault.

Officials say the incident happened at around 6 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 28 when responded to a call for an assault with intent to rape in the area of the Boston Public Garden in Downtown Boston. At the scene, responding officers spoke to the victim who said she had been walking inside the park when she was approached by a man who placed his hand over her mouth while making sexually explicit threats and attempting to remove an article of clothing.

The victim told police she was able to break free from the suspect’s grasp and flee to safety.

Around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning, officers assigned to District A-1 and detectives assigned to the Sexual Assault Unit arrested Luan Maxwell of Boston after receiving information regarding his location.

The officers saw him walking on Boylston Street towards Washing Street and he ran from officers but was caught on Beech Street.

He is expected to be arranged in Boston Municipal Court for Assault with Intent to Rape.

The Boston Police Sexual Assault Unit is actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident.
