Child rape suspect served as volunteer football coach at Brockton High School

BROCKTON, Mass. — A Brockton man who volunteered as a football coach for Brockton High School is facing child rape, sex trafficking and child pornography charges, Boston Police and school officials confirmed Thursday.

Kharee Louis-Jeune, 33, was arrested on a warrant Thursday morning at his home in Brockton by Boston and Brockton police.

The warrant was issued out of Dorchester District Court related to an ongoing investigation into illegal sexual acts, including rape of a child and possession and digital dissemination of child pornography, police said.

Parents in Brockton were on edge Thursday night after learning about the disturbing charges against Louis-Jeune.

”Very, very scary,” said Martin Morse, whose children attend Brockton HIgh School.

The news sickened parents like Morse.

”He shouldn’t have been there. I don’t know how he got past that,” said Morse.

Schools officials say he passed a CORI background check before being allowed to volunteer.

“In his role as a volunteer coach, this individual’s duties would not typically involve unsupervised contact with our student-athletes,” Brockton Public Schools Superintendent Mike Thomas said in a letter to the school community. “In accordance with Massachusetts law and district policies, he passed a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check prior to being accepted as a volunteer.”

But parents and alumni we spoke to want to know how he slipped through the cracks.

“It’s concerning. Yeah very, especially since my brother goes here now,” said Ivanilda Nascimento of Brockton, a 2015 graduate of the high school.

The alleged victim is not a member of the Brockton Public Schools community, Thomas said.

Thomas also said that because Louis-Juene was a volunteer he would not normally be alone with student-athletes. But he urged anyone who knows of any concerning behavior to reach out to Brockton Police.

“We understand this news will be disturbing and upsetting to our students and families,” Thomas said. “We strongly encourage any student or parent/guardian who would like to report any concerning behavior to contact Brockton Police at 508-941-0200.”

Louis-Jeune is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charges: rape of a child, trafficking a person for sexual servitude, possession of child pornography, enticement of a child and extortion by threat of injury.

The investigation was initiated by detectives assigned to the Boston Police Crimes Against Children Unit.
