DA: Woman seriously injured, baby dies after tree falls on car in Southwick

SOUTHWICK, Mass. — A woman was seriously injured and a baby killed Friday when a tree fell on a moving vehicle in Southwick, Massachusetts, according to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.

Emergency crews responded to Feeding Hills Road shortly before 12 p.m. for a serious accident. The DA says it appears a tree came down due to heavy wind and crushed the operator’s vehicle.

Crews were able to free the operator, a 23-year-old woman from Winstead CT, from the vehicle. She was transported to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries.

The operator’s baby did not survive the accident, DA says.

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Southwick Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
