3 Boston men arrested in connection with Newton burglaries

NEWTON, Mass. — Three Boston men have been arrested in connection with a series of burglaries in Newton last month, Newton Police said.

Joiser O. Zapata, 36, of Boston and Joseph R. Sarro, 39, and Ernest E. Woods, 52, both of Mattapan, were arrested Friday, Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker said in a statement released Saturday.

Zapata was arrested on a warrant issued for receiving stolen property over $1,200. Sarro was arrested on a warrant issued from the Newton District Court for two counts of receiving stolen property over $1,200 and identity fraud. Woods arrested on a warrant for larceny in a building.

Conducting the arrests were the Newton Police Department’s Warrant Unit and the Boston Police Department’s Fugitive Task Force and Gang Unit.

Newton detectives are continuing their investigation into the series of burglaries from this past March, as well as investigating the series of housebreaks on April 9, 2021, Apotheker said.
