26-year-old Everett man killed after being pinned by tree in Sudbury

SUDBURY, Mass. — A 26-year-old Everett man was killed by a falling tree in Sudbury on Wednesday afternoon, police say.

“A great kid too,” said Red Pollack, a family friend.

The man killed worked for a tree company. Pollack knew the man and his uncle, who was also on scene.

“They were friends we know them they used to work with us just started their business. It’s sad,” said Pollack.

A car bearing the name Pollock Brothers Tree Service was out front of the home where the accident happened at 40 Ridge Hill Road. Pollock says he was there to bring coffee and was not hired by the people who own the home.

Police say they got a 911 call just after 2:30 p.m.

“A male party had been struck and pinned by a tree and he was not breathing,” said Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix.

Police were there in minutes.

“We got there very quickly,” said Nix. “I would say in under 2 minutes the first officer on scene [got there]. The fire department shortly thereafter.”

The victim, who had been trapped under the tree, was taken to Emerson Hospital but did not survive his injuries.

Pollock says cutting trees can be tough and dangerous work.

“He ran the wrong way. You have to be careful. When you cut a tree make sure you have an exit.”

Police say this type of tragedy is always difficult but it’s especially tough the day before Thanksgiving.

“It’s unfortunate in our line of work we see that a life can be taken so quickly and abruptly and so young,” said Nix.

The Middlesex County District Attorney and Massachusetts State Police are assisting in the investigation.
