22-year-old man charged with murder in shooting in Lawrence in May

LAWRENCE, Mass. — A 22-year-old man is now charged with murder in connection with a shooting on Newton Street on May 3 that left one man dead and two others injured.

Hector Baez, of Lawrence and Haverhill, was arrested by state and local police on Thursday morning in Haverhill, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. He is expected to be arraigned in Lawrence District Court on Friday morning.

On Sunday May 3, just after 9 p.m., Lawrence Police received several 911 calls reporting shots fired at 141 Newton St.

When first responders arrived, they found Delvis Paulino-Fernandez, 26, dead at the scene.

Two other men were also shot and sent to Lawrence General Hospital, where they were treated and released.

Thursday’s arrest involved the Essex State Police Detective Unit, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, and Lawrence and Haverhill Police.
