22-year-old daughter of Sunapee High School principal killed when tree falls on SUV during storm

SUNAPEE, NH — The Sunapee School District has identified the young woman killed when a falling tree struck her SUV as she was driving from work during Wednesday’s storms.

Mary Moynihan, 22, died when her Toyota Rav4 was struck by the tree on Route 11 near Trow Hill Road around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Moynihan is the oldest daughter of Sunapee Middle/High School Principal Sean Moynihan, according to Superintendent Russell Holden.

“It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community. Last night Sean and Amy Moynihan’s daughter Mary tragically lost her life,” Holden wrote in a letter to parents.

Mary Moynihan is a recent graduate of the University of New Hampshire Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics and was returning home from work at Fidelity Investments when she was struck and killed.

Holden said the school’s crisis intervention team will be able to assist students who need or want help coping with this devastating loss.

“We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to help you and your child as you need,” Holden wrote.
