Police: Two suspects in custody, 22-month-old girl safe after car stolen in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Mass. — Massachusetts State Police say a 22-month-old girl who was reported missing Monday night was dropped off at Lawrence Hospital and is safe. State Police said the two suspects, a 33-year-old Methuen man, and a 29-year-old Haverhill woman, are in custody after a heavy police chase on I-495.

Adam Maksou, 36 of Methuen has been charged with kidnapping, larceny of a motor vehicle, and reckless endangerment to a child.

Erin Clark, 29 of Haverhill has been charged with kidnapping, and receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

Police announced a search after they said Emma Buth was in the backseat of a silver 2011 Honda Pilot SUV that was stolen in Lawrence around 8:20 p.m. near the intersection of South Broadway and Kingston Street.

Police said Buth had been dropped off at the hospital around 9:50 p.m. unharmed.

The grandmother of the little girl said the car was stolen after the child’s mother went inside the Esteban Barber Shop. She says the mother does not know the male and female suspects who are in custody.

Local and State Police units are actively investigating the incident.

Maksou and Clark will be arraigned on Tuesday in Lawrence District Court.
