10 Things You Didn't Know About Julie Grauert

BOSTON — Get to know FOX25 morning anchor Julie Grauert!

What is your favorite movie?

Titanic, hands down. Although Star Wars is creeping in. The newest one. I’m a late Star Wars fan, and it’s kind of threatening Titanic’s title, if not already overtaking it, but, there you go.

What is your favorite place to shop? Favorite store?

Anywhere with bargains - TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack. And then I love to go find things at thrift shops and discount stores, and then kind of, freshen them up.

What is your dream vacation?

Let’s do a beach, in a tropical place, clear water, beautiful weather, and I would love first-class seats to get there. Never flown first class, but I feel like that makes the whole thing so much easier – less stressful.

When do you go to bed and when do you wake up?

So, I have to take sleeping medicine, can I say that? It’s no secret. 4 p.m., asleep by 5 p.m., wake up at 1:45 a.m., and then usually out of bed by 2 a.m., into work by 2:15 a.m. Totally vampire hours, doesn’t make sense to anyone, but, that means there’s never any lines at the grocery store, happy hour starts early because my bedtime’s so early, and get a lot of sunshine!

What is your favorite story that you’ve ever covered?

There was story about a tailor in New York, he lives in Brooklyn, and he was taken by Nazi soldiers into a concentration camp and worked there as a tailor, that’s where he learned to sew his first buttons, and he was liberated by then-General Dwight D. Eisenhower, who later became his first customer, as President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and he has dressed every president since. That’s my favorite story.

If you were not a journalist, what would you be?

Broadway star! And I can’t sing, and I can’t dance, and I can’t act, and I have a deep-seeded addiction to live theater.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Tacos... or sugar… or salt. Like a salt lick would be fine, but, I’m on a tacos bender right now.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only have one item, what would it be?

J: Can it be a person? I would go, corny, boyfriend. Or, my littlest sister, she’s hilarious, very ridiculous, and would keep me entertained… no offense to my middle sister and my brother – you guys are great too!

What is something that makes you nervous?

Teaching… talking to kids, I get so nervous I would rather do breaking news about anything, life, TV. If I go into a classroom, and talk to kids, I get SO nervous, and have to prepare, and have to, like, psych myself up, so I think teachers have the toughest job ever.

What is your favorite thing about Boston?

Also corny, but, I’m going with the people. Everyone we have met, at restaurants, at stores, out and about: really good, hardworking, honest people. And, take the time to get to know you, talk to you,  and everyone is so open, and sharing, and giving, in what they know about Boston, their life stories, and I’ve found it to be a very welcoming city.
