Local twin sisters give birth hours apart

One-month-old cousins Andi and William already share an incredible bond. They were born just about 20 hours apart in delivery rooms right next door to each other at Mount Auburn Hospital.

Their mothers, Rachael McGeoch and Beccy Pistone, are twins. Rachael was due on August 1 and Beccy was due on August 13 and they were set to give birth at different hospitals.

“I live on Cape Cod. You live in Boston. Your due date is two weeks before mine. It just really seemed like a far-fetched idea,” said Pistone.

As Rachael's due date came and went, the sisters knew they had to be together. So, Beccy and her husband drove from the Cape to Cambridge and that's when things took an interesting turn. As soon as Beccy arrived, Rachael went into labor and then so did Beccy, who quickly went from being a visitor to a patient right next door.

“When she was actually pushing William out my mom and I were in the room and my husband. Our ears were pressed to the wall listening. As soon as we heard him cry we started banging on the wall saying yeah!” said Pistone.

But then Beccy's labor stalled and the tables turned.

“One of the most special moments was when she was stuck and not progressing and her nurse helped me sneak in and put him in her arms,” said McGeoch.

“I came up to help get her going and then when I stalled, she got to return the favor. It was a big collaborative effort to get these two into the world! Pretty special story,” said Pistone.

Rachael and Beccy can't wait to tell their children the story when they're a little older.
