Local sheriff's deputy finds balloon with heartbreaking note attached

TAUNTON, Mass. — A Bristol County sheriff's deputy found a balloon with a heartbreaking note attached and now he's trying to find the family who released the balloon into the air.

Civil Process Deputy Nelson Brum said he was eating lunch in his parked cruiser on Court Street around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday when he spotted a smiley face balloon floating in the wind toward him, about three-feet off the ground.

Brum said when he opened his door, the balloon came into his cruiser, before he even stepped out of the car.

A note, appeared to have been written by a young child, was attached to the balloon. The note read, "I love you dad. I miss you, but you are a star. I will never forget you."

Brum is hoping to return the balloon to an adult in the child's life.

Anyone with information on who the balloon may belong to is asked to contact the Bristol County Sheriff's Office at 508-995-1311.
