A Worcester organization that supports thousands of local veterans and their families is asking for help.
Veterans Inc. provides food, clothing and support services for vets around New England. Every year, the group holds a "Stand Down Day” event where veterans gather in one place to receive donated items, health and wellness services, and information about employment and training opportunities.
But this year, there’s a critical shortage of brand new sneakers for men and they need hundreds of pairs.
To address the shortage, Veterans Inc. is holding a community drive and collect brand new men’s sneaker sizes 8 – 12 on Saturday, June 9 at their Worcester location on 69 Grove Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Organizers say inventory of women’s sneakers is in good shape, but very few men’s sizes are available.
New sneakers have always been the most needed item at Stand Down Day and are often the only pair of shoes veterans will get in a year or more.
Visit Veterans Inc. for additional details about the 6/9 Community Sneaker Drive in Worcester and the 13th Annual Stand Down.
