Lighting the way for new cancer treatments

BOSTON — Thousands of people united to help fight cancer by lighting the Boston Common skies with gold, red, and white lanterns Thursday night.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night event raises funds for advancements in-patient treatments.

Gold lantern holders celebrated lives lost to cancer, red lantern carriers showed their support for all patients living with blood cancers, while cancer survivors held white lanterns.

The fundraiser and celebration kicked off with participants taking the stage and sharing their personal reasons for wanting every cancer diagnosis to become a story of survival.

Boston 25’s own Vanessa Welch hosted the moving program which concluded with a walk around the Boston Common.
