• Lawmakers debate ways to make more workers eligible for overtime pay

    Updated:

BOSTON - American workers are putting in a lot of overtime hours, but some aren't getting paid for the work.

Now, lawmakers are debating how to make more workers eligible for overtime.

Republicans want to raise the salary threshold for receiving the overtime to $35,000.

    Democrats say that's not enough.

They want the threshold to be raised to $51,000, but small businesses are concerned that could cause more problems for workers.

They said if more people are eligible for overtime, workers would likely receive lower pay rates.
