Keolis plans Commuter Rail fare gates for North, South and Back Bay stations

Catching a Commuter Rail train could be a lot more hectic soon.

Starting next year, the MBTA is planning to install fare gates at its three busiest stations in order to improve fare collection.

The company said North Station will likely see that gates first, followed by Back Bay and South Station later in the year.

Keolis released a picture of what the gates would look like at South Station.

They are hoping the new gates will actually cut down on crowding in station lobbies by distributing passengers in different directions rather than funneling them toward one place.
