BOSTON — Jury selection begins Tuesday for a man accused of murdering two doctors in South Boston back in 2017. The alleged murder was a gruesome killing in a luxury penthouse.
The question for these jurors is the same everyone is still asking two years later, why would a man from Chelsea, a concierge in their building, do it?
Pictures of the engaged couple show them happy and smiling. Two successful doctors together in life and now death. Their lives suddenly and brutally ended on May 5, 2017.
Both doctors lived and worked in and around Boston. They were found bound with duct tape with their throats slit.
Prosecutors say it was Bampumim Teixeira. He was arraigned at his bedside after being shot by responding officers as they entered the penthouse.
Police were alerted to the incident after Dr. Richard field sent a text to a friend to call 911, "because a man with a gun was inside the house…"
Prosecutors say Teixera was seen lurking around the condo complex and then in the garage the afternoon of the murders. Dr. Lina Bolanos got home at about 5 p.m. and Dr. Field around 6:30 p.m.
Police arrived knocking at the door but got no answer. They found keys to the apartment outside the door before going in and encountered a man with what appeared to be a gun.
Police fired two shots wounding Teixeira.
Inside the police found the bodies of the doctors. They later found a bag and clothes matching the description of the man seen earlier lurking around the building. Officers also found two fake guns and a backpack full of Bolanos' jewelry.
