Jury sees graphic video in day 2 of Wayne Chapman lewdness trial

Tuesday was the second day of the trial of Wayne Chapman, the convicted child rapist now accused of exposing himself to staff at MCI-Shirley.

At the time of the incidents in June 2018, the legal path was clear for Chapman's release after decades in prison for a child rape conviction. His lawyer was even looking for a place that would take him.

Until suddenly, Chapman was charged with two counts of open and gross lewdness at MCI-Shirley.

In court Tuesday, the jury spent the morning looking at graphic surveillance video from inside the prison. Testimony mostly focused on the first incident when staff members say Chapman refused to cover himself up for hours.

Witnesses say it started when a staffer noticed Chapman was lying in his bed with human waste in his cell and on him. A C.N.A. said she entered the cell and tried to clean him up, but afterwards, several staffers said they told Chapman to coverup. But for an hour-and-a-half, he was in his bed in front of a window facing the nursing station, in full view of the staff, naked from the waist down.

The defense is arguing that Chapman's medical conditions made it difficult for him to stand up.
