LOWELL, Mass. — Don't expect to see jet skis on the Merrimack River anymore in Lowell.
The city council voted unanimously to ban the vehicles on a busy stretch of the river.
Police say the river is narrow and a ban will help keep the area safe. It bans the use of jet skis and other recreational watercraft in the Lowell canals and on the Merrimack River in the area.
The new ordinance comes after two people were killed in separate jet ski crashes there this summer.
