Police searching for person who shot man in Mattapan

BOSTON — Boston Police are currently investigating a shooting after a man was found with gunshot wounds in Dorchester.

According to officials, a call came in on Thursday just before 4:00 p.m. for reports of a person shot in the area of 160 Norfolk Street.

Police said the victim was shot on nearby Morton Street, in Mattapan, but it remains unclear how they got to Norfolk Street.

"I didn’t see nothing I heard the gunshots then I saw a bunch of people scrambling," said Edward Evans. "The guy that got shot here somehow he made it up over there; I don’t know if he drove there or ran there but they [were] found up over there."

The victim, identified only as an adult man, was rushed to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is currently in critical but stable condition.

Police are currently on scene conducting an investigation.

About an hour and a half later, Boston Police responded to reports of shots fired at a nearby beauty salon.

The two scenes, a mile apart from each other, are connected. Police said the bullet that went through the salon was a stray bullet.

"Kids were outside, we didn’t see who it was and they just started shooting, so we all went down it’s like what can you really do," said Lisette Santana.

Santana says it's a scene she's all too familiar with. Back in July, another shooting in the area ended with bullets going through Morton's Pizza, where she works.

"It was like 4 gunshots and they came inside the store and literally passed across my face," said Santana. "No one wants to come to work like, 'Oh maybe I might get shot today at my job,' like I’m here to make my money everyone is here for the same thing everyone has bills to pay."

Santana believes more should be done to address the violence in the neighborhood that most in the area agree has become too common of an occurrence.

"I’m always hearing gunshots, every day," said Evans.

"So it’s like can someone do something?" said Santana. "Is someone out there that cares for our community?"

Many of the businesses in the area have surveillance cameras, which detectives are still reviewing.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything to reach out with tips.
