Injured Dracut hiker helped by passing rescue volunteer in NH

SHELBURNE, N.H. — New Hampshire authorities say a search and rescue team member hiking on his own time helped rescue a Massachusetts woman who injured herself while hiking in the White Mountains.

According to a news release, 51-year-old Diane Regan from Dracut, was hiking on Mount Moriah on Saturday when she slipped and fell on some wet rocks, hurting her leg.

Regan said she heard a snap in her leg and could no longer put weight on it -- realizing she couldn't walk without assistance.

Another hiker called for help, and as Fish and Game conservation officers headed to the trailhead, a member of the Lakes Region Search and Rescue team, who was hiking the same trail on his own time, came across Regan.

The team member and another hiker helped Regan about a mile down the trail to make the rescue effort easier and get her out of the woods quicker.

After they met up with conservation officers and the Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue team,  they took her down the rest of the way via an all-terrain vehicle.
