Illegal resident arrested for trying to stab person, dog; detained by ICE

MERRIMACK, N.H. — A Springfield man was arrested Wednesday night after threatening to stab a Merrimack resident and the homeowner's dog.

Sarbelio Lorenzo-Zacarias, 33, was charged with criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, a felony, and animal cruelty, a misdemeanor.

Officers arrived at the house around 10:55 p.m. last night and discovered that Lorenzo-Zacarias had run away from the house.

They learned that he had waved a knife and threatened to stab another guest at the home. He also grabbed the homeowner's dog, a maltese mix named Nico, and while holding him threatened to stab him.

Officers searched for Lorenzo-Zacarias and found him intoxicated and hiding on the property. He was taken into custody and brought to the Merrimack Police Department where he was processed.

While booking him, officers discovered that he may be in the country illegally and an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Agent confirmed that he is.

He refused bail and a detainer was placed on him by ICE.

Lorenzo-Zacarias was brought to Hillsborough County House of Corrections and is scheduled to be arraigned at Hillsborough County Superior Court South on Sept. 12.
