Husband of woman murdered in Winchester in 2002 is dead

WINCHESTER, Mass. — She lived in a wealthy neighborhood and was well liked at the time of her murder.

The death of Susann Wyler shocked the Winchester community in 2002. The town doesn’t have much violent crime.

There’s never been an arrest in the case and now it could go unsolved forever because Susann’s husband, Geoffrey Wyler, is dead.

On Oct. 2, 2002, Susann's son, Gregory, found his mother's body between the house and the garage. Her dog was by her side.

Then Middlesex District Attorney Martha Coakley told us Susann died from a massive beating attack.

From the very start, Geoffrey was a focus of this investigation. He was a high-powered attorney in Boston and according to a People Magazine article from 2002, they were going through a nasty separation at the time of her death.

According to a death certificate on file at Hanover Town Hall, Geoffrey Wyler suffered a massive cardiac arrest on Oct. 26, 2015.

Geoffrey died at an expensive home in Hanover that he shared with a girlfriend and her daughter, a source told Boston 25 News’ Bob Ward.

Hanover police and fire confirmed they responded to an emergency call at the house on that day, but nothing could save him.

Over the years the Middlesex County DA never called Geoffrey Wyler a suspect, but one of his son’s made it clear the family suspected him from the beginning.

Geoffrey and Susann had taken out restraining orders against each other while separated.

In one Susann Wyler told police Geoffrey had threatened: "If you ever divorce me, I’ll kill you," I’ll kill your mother. If I don’t do it, I’ll hire someone to do it."

Back in 2013, investigators took a fresh look at the case, pouring over the family fighting and details of the case. No arrest came from it.

In a statement Thursday, Middlesex County DA Marian Ryan told Boston 25 News Geoffrey's death does not close the investigation.

“Our office remains committed to solving the homicide of Susann Wyler, and to bringing closure to the victim's family and loved ones. This remains an open investigation and we are actively seeking information from members of the public who may know something that may lead to identifying the person or persons responsible for this crime,”
