Family speaks about murdered Lynn teacher as husband is sentenced to life

LYNN, Mass. — A Massachusetts man convicted of killing his wife has been sentenced to life in prison after a judge heard impact statements from the victim's family.

Andrew MacCormack said at his sentencing hearing on Monday that he did not kill Vanessa Masucci-MacCormack and promised he would "not rest until this injustice is corrected."

"There is somebody out there getting away with murder right now, walking free," he said Monday.

Masucci, a beloved teacher at a Lynn elementary school, was found beaten and stabbed in the couple's Revere home in September 2017.

Prosecutors said the couple was having financial problems and Masucci had confronted her husband about his drug use before her death and threatened to seek a divorce if he didn't "shape up."

Her mother, Karen said, "The pain of losing Vanessa is so deep and painful, that I don't feel like a whole person.... No one in this world, ever did, or ever will, love Andrew, as much as Vanessa did. And he repaid that love by viciously killing her."

The victim's sister, Karen Masucci, said MacCormack not only took her sister but her best friend.

"I cannot recover from the fact that he hugged me with the same hands that he used to kill her not even 24 hours before," she said.

Defense attorneys said investigators did not look hard enough at other potential suspects. MacCormack's attorney said he plans to appeal.

MacCormack was convicted last month of first-degree murder.

The judge also called what MacCormack did "the ultimate act of betrayal."
