Hundreds gather to remember victim of opioid addiction in Lynnfield

LYNNFIELD, Mass. — Hundreds gathered in Lynnfield to show support for families impacted by substance abuse.

"A Night of Hope" was organized by the non-profit A Healthy Lynnfield along with the Dalton family, who lost their 39-year-old son, Michael, to an accidental overdose last year while in treatment.

Michael was a star athlete at St. Sebastian's School in Needham and a graduate of Colby College.

He left behind a 6-year-old son, Mason. He was also the son of one of Lynnfield's selectmen.

Last night, supporters gathered at Lynnfield Middle School and marched along a route of purple ribbons to the town common.

Alex Costa, a detox facility executive, and son of KISS 108's Billy Costa, also talked about his own personal road to recovery.

The Dalton family formed the non-profit Think of Michael to get the message out that no family is immune to addiction.

The organization will host another fundraiser Jan. 10 in Danvers.
