Quincy to loosen restrictions at some of its parks

QUINCY, Mass. — The reopening is slowly happening differently in each city and town. Quincy announced it will give people access to some of their parks with strict conditions.

“We really understand the role our parks can play in getting people outside. Fresh air and getting them some recreation,” said Commissioner of natural resources Dave Murphy.

Beginning Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. socially distant recreational activity will be permitted. Murphy told us “people will be able to play basketball, tennis and use our parks in a manner that is both safe and fun.”

There will be restrictions. They don’t want multiple people playing at one hoop unless everyone is in the same family.

“We don’t want to have organized or pick up games, basketball game, baseball touch football, etc," said Murphy.

The Tot Lot Playgrounds will remain closed because of the chance of the virus spreading when children touch the same areas. As the parks get busier park rangers will start taking reservations.

“Somebody isn’t going to be able to be on a court for 3-4 hours at a time. There will be an hour time slot that each person can sign up for," said Murphy.
