BOSTON — The state’s first mass vaccination site to open is closing. Gillette Stadium’s vaccination clinic will close its doors at the end of Monday.
This comes as the state continues to lead the country in getting its population vaccinated. The governor has credited mass vaccination sites like Gillette as a reason for getting so many people vaccinated so quickly.
Gillette first opened as a mass vaccination site back in January and initially offered the shot to first responders. Since then, several mass vaccination sites opened up in the state, and to date, have administered more than 1.7 million doses.

But after five months of giving shots to residents, other mass vaccination sites in the state, including the ones at the Hynes Convention Center, Reggie Lewis Center, and Doubletree in Danvers, will be closing at the end of the month.
The focus will be turning to mobile vaccination sites in some of the hardest-hit communities. The state continues to be a nationwide leader in vaccinations, with 79% of all adult residents have received at least one dose.
The state also reported just 33 new COVID-19 cases Sunday and no covid-related deaths, some of the lowest numbers since this all started.
The state is about 30,000 shy of 4 million people fully vaccinated. The state expects to hit that milestone at some point this week.
