Lynn mothers launch remote learning Facebook support group

LYNN, Mass. — Ke’arra Greene and Ireny Delacruz both have children in the Lynn Public Schools and both are feeling the overwhelming stress of remote learning.

The mothers aren’t alone in their frustration. They heard the same thing from other parents.

“I can understand how frustrating it is for the kids. Imagine how they feel if their parents don’t understand what’s going on,” Greene said.

So this week they launched a Facebook page to help parents in Lynn deal with all the technology. It’s called the Lynn Schools Remote Learning Support Group For Parents.

“Some of them don’t know how to use a computer at all. Some of the parents are just like phone people they don’t really use computers or laptops or none of that something like that so I thought creating it would help a lot,” Delacruz said.

Lynn is remote-only learning due to high COVID-19 cases. The Facebook page has been flooded with all sorts of questions and concerns by many panicked parents. Other parents weigh-in with answers or possible solutions. The biggest issues appear to center around log-ins and passwords.

“We’ve posted all the passwords we’ve come across, so it’s just a really good resource tool and I think it’s really important to keep everybody on the same page and keep everyone in a positive light,” Greene said.

In just the few days since the Facebook page was launched, nearly 500 parents have joined. Both moms say many teachers are also part of the group since they, too, have a lot of questions.
