Lawrence hoping block party brings boost in COVID-19 vaccinations

LAWRENCE, Mass. — The city of Lawrence is hosting its fourth and final “vaccine block party” of the summer Saturday with the hopes of increasing vaccination rates.

The final event runs from 12 – 5 p.m. at Cronin Park and will feature food trucks, an ice cream truck, a D.J., and more.

All three vaccines will be available – Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson.

The latest numbers on the city website shows 62.3% of Lawrence residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine compared to the state average of more than 76%.

While Lawrence is hoping for a boost in first and second vaccinations, a third booster shot for all Americans was shot down by an FDA advisory panel Friday.

The panel did recommend booster vaccines for people aged 65 and older and those who are at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19.
