Lansdowne Street to become ‘game day’ experience for Red Sox home games

BOSTON — Fans can’t go inside Fenway Park for the 2020 Red Sox season, but Lansdowne Street will be closing to traffic on home game days to offer up the next best thing.

Bars on Lansdowne, including the Bleacher Bar, are setting up outdoor patios in preparation for a new game day experience.

In addition to patios extending out into the street, a pop-up restaurant, Under the Green Monster, is being built under the legendary Green Monster.

“We think people are still going to want to be around the park, and we want to give people an outlet to feel comfortable and safe doing it,” said Ryan Jones, VP of Operations with the Lyons Group, which runs five establishments outside Fenway.

Eastern Standard Provisions has teamed up with the Lyons Group to serve up food for the game day atmosphere. That includes a pretzel stand being set up outside the Bleacher Bar.

“The city, they’re playing ball with a lot of these local businesses to give us a shot to survive. Without things like this, we really don’t have a chance at survival,” said Bill Moran with Eastern Standard Provisions.

Lansdowne Street will be closed to traffic starting on July 24th, when the Red Sox take on the Orioles at Fenway. It will also be closed on weekends.

Bars are still working with the city to approve setting up huge LED screens for fans to watch the game live out in the street.
