IRS to send around 50,000 catch-up stimulus payments following agency error

BOSTON — The IRS will be sending thousands of checks to people who wrongfully lost part of their economic stimulus payments from the coronavirus relief aid.

The error was connected to people with spouses who owe back child-support.

The IRS said the mistake affected around 50,000 people.

According to the IRS notice, for people who filled out the proper IRS form, known as the Injured Spouse Allocation form, your catch-up payment will be sent in mid-September.

For people who didn’t fill out the IRS form, you’ll still get a catch-up check but the timeline is unclear on when it will be sent.

You can check the status of your payment by using the Get My Payment tool on the IRS website.
