Families clamoring for camp experiences filling up fast

DEDHAM, Mass. — Phase 4, Step 1 and fresh paint for foursquare at Nobles Day Camp in Dedham.

“I think we all know kids need camp more than ever this year,” said Emily Parker - Director of Nobles Day Camp.

Parents know it too, after opening registration it took all of 48 hours for them to fill up.

“At many day camps we have had to minimize our capacities – we aren’t sure how big we can be – our advice is to get on the waitlist – don’t be discouraged - we are hoping with the new regulations more camp spots and of course with overnight camps, there’s going to be more options as well,” said Parker.

Water, outdoor space, and engaging activity is coveted by families looking to reintegrate and socialize after an isolating year.

“Parents are excited to have their kids get some sort of normalcy back if they can,” said Parker.

“The magic of camp brings together those campers and councilors in a way that builds friendships, it does all the things you’re supposed to have in life,” said Joe Kahn – CEO & Founder LINX Camps.

At Lynx, which operates day camps in Wellesley, they are filling up faster than the 100-yard dash.

“It’s crazy, for any person who is trying to sign up for camp or get summer camp job, do it now. Don’t wait any longer, we are fuller at this time of the year than we’ve ever been before,” said Kahn.

All of this while it’s a waiting game for camp directors, to see what the state does with restrictions and capacity next. For now, they are planning for what they know.

“We are still assuming a reduced capacity – so we have a huge waiting list. Whether you want to sign up for LINX camps or another camp – don’t wait don wait until April or May because all the spots will prob be gone,” said Kahn.

Being flexible will be a big help.

“Every camp is doing the best they can to service as many campers as they can,” said Parker.
