DPH: Officials investigating COVID-19 data released daily in Massachusetts

BOSTON — The state says there is an ongoing investigation into the coronavirus data they release every day.

This comes after more reporting issues from commercial labs the state is relying on to determine risk levels.

That’s the color-coded system for communities across the state.

On Friday, the dashboard reported 14 new coronavirus deaths and 212 new cases. Both were down from the previous day.

But also Friday, the state said especially for school districts trying to make decisions about back to school plans, the Department of Public Health identified a potential reporting issue by one commercial lab that occurred over a three-day period from July 30 to Aug. 1.

DPH contacted the lab and testing was immediately ceased and an investigation is underway.

They go on to say that Fall River went from red to yellow, based on the data and Taunton went from yellow to green.

Those are both improvements.

The state writes that this issue is still under investigation, so other municipalities’ numbers may be updated.

25 Investigates has done extensive reporting about questionable testing practices and false-positive results.
