State reports 1,428 new cases, 52 new deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Sunday that there are 1,428 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That brings the total number of cases seen in the commonwealth since the pandemic began to 550,302, including an estimated 30,062 active cases in Massachusetts.

Additionally, Mass. DPH reported that 52 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the pandemic began in Massachusetts, the commonwealth has seen 15,796 total deaths among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Sunday, DPH said that 102,571 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. In total, the state has given out 16,208,091 molecular tests for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 1.73% on Sunday.

Saturday, Feb. 27

DPH reports 1,516 new cases, 41 new deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Saturday that there are 1,516 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, bringing the total number of cases seen in the commonwealth since the pandemic began to 548,874. Currently, there are an estimated 30,111 active cases in Massachusetts.

Additionally, the state reported that 41 more people in Massachusetts have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the pandemic began in the commonwealth in March 2020, 15,744 people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, Mass. DPH reported that 108,261 new molecular tests have been administered for COVID-19 in Massachusetts, bringing the total number of tests given out in the state for the coronavirus to 16,105,520.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests is 1.85% as of Saturday, DPH reported.

Friday, Feb. 26

1,734 new COVID-19 cases, 46 new deaths reported

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Friday that 46 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, up slightly from 33 deaths reported on Thursday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Massachusetts has seen 15,703 total deaths among people with positive cases of COVID-19.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 1,734 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state Friday. Those new cases bring the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the commonwealth since the outbreak began to 547,358. Currently, there are an estimated 30,983 active cases in Mass.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 102,584 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. To date, the total number of tests given out by the state since the pandemic began is 15,997,259.

As of Friday, 807 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus in Massachusetts. Of these patients, 211 were in the intensive care unit and 137 were intubated.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests increased slightly to 1.9% on Friday, its seventh consecutive day at less than 2%.

More than 2M doses of the vaccine shipped to Mass., per latest report

The state has administered 56,252 total new doses of the COVID-19 vaccines, according to its daily vaccine report. With the new number of vaccines administered, the state has now given out a total of 1,622,553 vaccine doses as of Feb. 26.

Of those doses, 1,142,357 of them have been first doses - of which 30,528 were newly administered - while 480,196 have been second doses - of which 25,724 were newly administered.

The state also reported that 35,090 new doses of the vaccines have been shipped to Mass., bringing the total number of vaccines shipped to the commonwealth to 2,026,900. Of those new doses shipped, 22,490 went to Massachusetts providers, while 12,600 went to pharmacies directly from the federal government.

Thursday, Feb. 25

State reports considerable drop in high-risk ’red towns’

Massachusetts officials on Thursday reported encouraging news in its town-by-town report: a continued drop -- resulting in a 75 percent drop over the past two weeks -- in “red towns” that are communities designated as high risk for COVID-19 transmission.

In total, 28 cities and towns in the commonwealth were classified as being in the red on Thursday.

That is down from 66 communities that had that designation last week, and down from 110 communities listed as “red towns” the week prior.

1,928 new COVID-19 cases, 33 new deaths reported

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Thursday that 33 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, nearly half of the 60 deaths reported on Wednesday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Massachusetts has seen 15,657 total deaths among people with positive cases of COVID-19.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 1,928 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state Thursday, up slightly from 1,788 new cases reported Wednesday. Those new cases bring the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the commonwealth since the outbreak began to 545,624. Currently, there are an estimated 32,117 active cases in Mass.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 118,144 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. To date, the total number of tests given out by the state since the pandemic began is 15,894,675.

As of Thursday, 853 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus in Massachusetts. Of these patients, 221 were in the intensive care unit and 142 were intubated.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped slightly to 1.85% on Thursday, its sixth consecutive day at less than 2%.

Wednesday, Feb. 24

1,788 new COVID-19 cases, 60 new deaths reported

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that 60 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, twice the number of 30 deaths reported on Tuesday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Massachusetts has seen 15,624 total deaths among people with positive cases of COVID-19. Two deaths of people with probable cases of the virus were also reported Wednesday.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 1,788 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state Wednesday, up from 1,114 new cases reported Tuesday. Those new cases bring the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the commonwealth since the outbreak began to 543,696. Currently, there are an estimated 30,189 active cases in Mass.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 114,127 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19, up from 62,531 new tests administered on Tuesday. To date, the total number of tests given out by the state since the pandemic began is 15,776,531.

As of Wednesday, 875 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus in Massachusetts. Of these patients, 219 were in the intensive care unit and 151 were intubated.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests remained at 1.89% on Wednesday, its fifth consecutive day at less than 2%.

Tuesday, Feb. 23

DPH confirms 1,114 new COVID-19 cases, 30 new deaths in state

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Tuesday that 30 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Massachusetts has seen 15,564 total deaths among people with positive cases of COVID-19. Yesterday, the country reached the grim milestone of over 500,000 COVID-19 deaths reported.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 1,114 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state Tuesday, down from Monday. Those new cases bring the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the commonwealth since the outbreak began to 541,908. Currently, there are an estimated 33,951 active cases in Mass.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 62,531 new molecular tests have been administered in Mass. for COVID-19, bringing the total number of tests given out by the state since the pandemic began to 15,662,404.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests decreased slightly to 1.89% Tuesday, its fourth consecutive day less than 2%.

State administers 32,428 new doses of vaccine, per latest report

The state has administered 32,428 total new doses of the COVID-19 vaccines, according to its daily vaccine report. With the new number of vaccines administered, the state has now given out a total of 1,476,276 vaccine doses as of February 23.

Of those doses, 1,061,335 of them have been first doses - of which 17,125 were newly administered - while 414,941 have been second doses - of which 15,303 were newly administered.

The state also reported that 41,190 new doses of the vaccines have been shipped to Mass., bringing the total number of vaccines shipped to the commonwealth to 1,729,550. Of those more than 41,000 new doses received, 9,320 went to Massachusetts providers while 31,870 went to pharmacies directly from the federal government.

Monday, Feb. 22

State reports 1,150 new cases, 26 more deaths as U.S. death toll eclipses 500K

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Monday that 26 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Those new deaths come on the same day that the U.S. death toll from the coronavirus eclipsed the 500,000-mark. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Massachusetts has seen 15,534 total deaths among people with positive cases of COVID-19.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 1,150 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state Monday. Those new cases bring the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the commonwealth since the outbreak began to 540,794. Currently, there are an estimated 35,660 active cases in Mass.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 49,929 new molecular tests have been administered in Mass. for COVID-19, bringing the total number of tests given out by the state since the pandemic began to 15,599,873.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests increased slightly to 1.90% Monday, its third consecutive day less than 2%.

Sunday, Feb. 21

Positive-test rate drops below 2%

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Sunday that there are 1,316 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. That brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in the commonwealth since the beginning of the pandemic to 539,644. Currently, there are an estimated 35,874 active cases of the coronavirus in Mass.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported Sunday that 87,420 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Mass. back in March 2020, the state has given out 15,549,944 total molecular tests.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 1.86% on Sunday. Before Sunday, the state had not reported a sub-2% positive-test rate since early November 2020; however, the state did amend yesterday’s report to show that the positive test rate then was 1.97% instead of the 2.02% originally reported.

Additionally, Mass. DPH reported that 46 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of people in the state who died while having confirmed cases of the virus to 15,508.

Saturday, Feb. 20

DPH reports 1,822 new cases, 53 new deaths

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported Saturday that there are 1,822 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state. Those new cases push the total number of cases that the state has seen since the pandemic began in Mass. to 538,328, including an estimated 36,316 active ones.

Additionally, DPH reported that 53 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in Mass. among people who had confirmed cases of the virus to 15,462.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, Mass. DPH reported that 115,002 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Mass., the state has given out 15,462,524 total molecular tests for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 2.02% on Saturday.

Friday, Feb. 19

36 deaths reported, new confirmed cases drop

For the first time since Thanksgiving, the number of people hospitalized with coronavirus in Massachusetts dropped below 1,000, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported Friday. DPH reported that 990 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus in the state. Of these patients, 258 were in the intensive care unit and 163 were intubated.

Also Friday, DPH reported that there are 1,679 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, down from 1,803 new cases reported Thursday. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state since the pandemic began is now 536,506, including an estimated 37,210 active cases.

Additionally, DPH reported that 36 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of deaths in Massachusetts among people with confirmed cases of the virus to 15,409. Four deaths of persons with probable cases of the virus were also reported.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Friday, DPH reported that 106,656 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. In total, the state has given out 15,347,522 molecular tests for the virus since the outbreak began in March 2020.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests was 2.10% on Friday, down very slightly from 2.13% on Thursday, and down from 2.20% on Wednesday.

Thursday, Feb. 18

State reports 40 percent drop in high-risk ’red towns’

Massachusetts officials on Thursday reported encouraging news in its town-by-town report: a 40 percent drop in so-called “red towns” that are communities designated as high risk for COVID-19 transmission.

In total, 66 cities and towns in the commonwealth were classified as being in the red on Thursday.

That is down from 110 communities that had that designation last week, and down from 153 communities listed as “red towns” the week prior.

Thursday, Feb. 18

61 deaths reported, new confirmed cases rise

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported Thursday that there are 1,803 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, up from 1,322 new cases reported Wednesday. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state since the pandemic began is now 534,827, including an estimated 38,666 active cases.

Additionally, DPH reported that 61 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of deaths in Massachusetts among people with confirmed cases of the virus to 15,373. Two deaths of persons with probable cases of the virus were also reported.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Thursday, DPH reported that 100,002 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19, up from 82,971 tests administered Wednesday. In total, the state has given out 15,240,866 molecular tests for the virus since the outbreak began in March 2020.

Also Thursday, DPH reported 1,029 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus in the state. Of these patients, 271 were in the intensive care unit and 173 were intubated.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests was 2.13% on Thursday, down from 2.20% on Wednesday.

Wednesday, Feb. 17

55 deaths reported, new confirmed cases rise slightly

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that there are 1,322 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, up from 967 new cases reported Tuesday. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state since the pandemic began is now 533,024, including an estimated 39,916 active cases.

Additionally, DPH reported that 55 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of deaths in Massachusetts among people with confirmed cases of the virus to 15,312. One death of a person with a probable case of the virus was also reported.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Wednesday, DPH reported that just 82,971 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19, up from 46,488 tests administered Tuesday. In total, the state has given out 15,140,864 molecular tests for the virus since the outbreak began in March 2020.

Also Wednesday, DPH reported 1,088 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus in the state. Of these patients, 273 were in the intensive care unit and 179 were intubated.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests was 2.20% on Wednesday, down very slightly from 2.22% on Tuesday.

Tuesday, Feb. 16

49 deaths reported, new confirmed cases fall

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported Tuesday that there are 967 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, down from 1,480 new cases reported Monday. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state since the pandemic began is now 531,702, including an estimated 42,395 active cases.

Additionally, DPH reported that 49 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of deaths in Massachusetts among people with confirmed cases of the virus to 15,257.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Tuesday, DPH reported that just 46,488 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19, down from 62,852 tests administered Monday, and 110,894 new tests reported Sunday. In total, the state has given out 15,057,893 molecular tests for the virus since the outbreak began in March 2020.

Also Tuesday, DPH reported 1,096 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus in the state. Of these patients, 275 were in the intensive care unit and 177 were intubated.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose slightly on Tuesday to 2.22%, up from 2.19% on Monday.

New cases, deaths fall Monday as testing numbers drop

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported Monday that there are 1,480 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state. Those new cases bring the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state since the pandemic began to 530,735, including an estimated 45,833 active ones.

Additionally, DPH reported that 32 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in Mass. among people who had confirmed cases of the virus to 15,208.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Monday, DPH reported that just 62,852 new molecular tests have been administered in Mass. for COVID-19, down from the 110,894 new tests reported Sunday. In total, the state has given out 15,011,405 molecular tests for the virus since the outbreak began in March 2020.

Positivity rate continues to fall as DPH reports 1,820 new cases, 60 new deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Sunday that there are 1,820 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, pushing the total number of cases of the coronavirus in the commonwealth since the pandemic began to 529,255. Currently, there are an estimated 45,916 active cases of the virus in Mass.

Additionally, the state reported that 60 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. In total, 15,176 people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

State reports 1,949 new cases, 65 new deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Saturday that there are 1,949 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth. Since the pandemic began, Massachusetts has seen a total of 527,435 confirmed cases of the virus, including an estimated 46,413 active ones.

Additionally, DPH reported Saturday that 65 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. That pushes the total number of fatalities in Mass. among people who had confirmed cases of the virus to 15,116.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH announced that 99,915 new molecular tests have been administered for COVID-19 in Mass., bringing the total number of molecular tests that have been given out by the state for the virus to 14,837,659.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests decreased Saturday to 2.40%

Friday, Feb. 12

87 new COVID deaths, 2,228 new confirmed cases

Massachusetts reached a somber milestone on Friday, when the state surpassed 15,000 COVID-related deaths, according to the Department of Public Health’s daily COVID-19 statistics.

DPH reported that 87 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of people in Massachusetts who have died while having confirmed cases of the virus to 15,051. The state also reported that two people with probable cases of the virus died as of Friday, pushing the state’s total of probable deaths to 307.

There are 2,228 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. In total, since the pandemic began, the state has seen 525,486 total cases of the virus, including an estimated 48,280 active cases.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Friday, DPH announced that 106,107 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began, the state has given out 14,737,744 total molecular tests for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 2.55%.

Additionally, DPH said that 1,223 people are currently hospitalized in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Of those patients, 300 are in intensive care units while 180 are intubated. The average age of people hospitalized for the virus in the state is 72 years old.

Thursday, Feb. 11

61 new COVID deaths, 2,213 new confirmed cases

The state’s Department of Public Health released its daily COVID-19 statistics Thursday afternoon, reporting that there are 2,213 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. In total, since the pandemic began, the state has seen 523,258 total cases of the virus, including an estimated 50,344 active cases.

DPH also reported that 61 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of people in Mass. who have died while having confirmed cases of the virus to 14,964. The state also reported that one person with a probable case of the virus died as of Thursday, pushing the state’s total of probable deaths to 305.

The state reported 110 cities and towns designated as high-risk on Feb. 11, 2021, down almost 30% from last week.

Also Thursday, the state saw a notable drop in “red zone” towns: 110 cities and towns in Massachusetts are now classified in red, down almost 30 percent from last week.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Thursday, DPH announced that 110,792 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began, the state has given out 14,631,637 total molecular tests for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 2.65%.

Additionally, DPH said that 1,313 people are currently hospitalized in Massachusetts for COVID-19. Of those patients, 304 are in intensive care units while 185 are intubated. The average age of people hospitalized for the virus in the state is 72 years old.

Wednesday, Feb. 10

82 new COVID deaths, 1,920 new confirmed cases

The state’s Department of Public Health released its daily COVID-19 statistics Wednesday afternoon, reporting that there are 1,920 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. In total, since the pandemic began, the state has seen 521,045 total cases of the virus, including an estimated 52,372 active ones.

The organization also reported that 82 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of people in Mass. who have died while having confirmed cases of the virus to 14,903.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Wednesday, DPH announced that 100,271 new molecular tests have been administered in Mass. for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began, the state has given out 14,520,845 total molecular tests for the virus.

Positive COVID-test rate remains at 2.96% for third day

The state’s Department of Public Health released its daily COVID-19 statistics Tuesday afternoon, reporting that there are 1,319 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. In total, since the pandemic began, the state has seen 519,125 total cases of the virus, including an estimated 55,569 active ones.

The organization also reported that 68 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of people in Mass. who have died while having confirmed cases of the virus to 14,821.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Tuesday, DPH announced that 52,112 new molecular tests have been administered in Mass. for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began, the state has given out 14,420,574 total molecular tests for the virus.

Monday, Feb. 8

DPH reports 55 new deaths, 1,276 new cases

The numbers for new deaths and cases continued to drop on Monday. Today’s data released by the state Department of Public Health reported 55 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, compared to 76 new deaths on Sunday. The total number of deaths in the state is 14,753 since the pandemic began.

Massachusetts on Monday also saw 1,276 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, down from 3,004 new cases on Sunday. The total number of confirmed cases in the commonwealth since the pandemic began is 517,806. Currently, there are an estimated 58,439 active cases of the virus in Massachusetts.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Monday, DPH reported that 42,946 new molecular tests have been administered for COVID-19, down significantly from the 113,095 new molecular tests administered on Sunday. To date, the total number of molecular tests given out by the state for the virus is 14,368,462.

Currently, there are 1,387 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Of those patients, 329 are in intensive care units while 188 are intubated. The average age of a patient hospitalized in Massachusetts for the coronavirus is 68 years old.

DPH reports 76 new deaths, 3,004 new cases

The COVID-19 pandemic is still taking a toll on Massachusetts. Sunday’s data released by the state Department of Public Health reported 76 new deaths among people with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, pushing the total number of deaths in the state to 14,698 since the pandemic began.

Additionally, the state reported two deaths among people with probable cases of the virus.

Massachusetts on Sunday also saw 3,004 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of confirmed cases in the commonwealth since the pandemic began to 516,530. Currently, there are an estimated 59,162 active cases of the virus in Massachusetts.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Sunday, DPH reported that 113,095 new molecular tests have been administered for COVID-19, down from 129,509 administered on Saturday. To date, the total number of molecular tests given out by the state for the virus is 14,325,516.

Currently, there are 1,389 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Of those patients, 318 are in intensive care units while 191 are intubated. The average age of a patient hospitalized in Massachusetts for the coronavirus is 68 years old.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 2.96% on Sunday, down from 3.11% on Saturday.

Saturday, Feb. 6

DPH reports 3,378 new cases, 59 new deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Saturday that there are 3,378 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, pushing the total number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the commonwealth since the pandemic began to 513,526. Currently, there are an estimated 58,768 active cases of the virus in Mass.

Additionally, DPH reported that 59 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the pandemic began, Mass. has seen 14,622 people die while having confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Saturday, DPH reported that 129,509 new molecular tests have been administered for COVID-19 in Mass., pushing the total number of molecular tests given out by the state for the virus to 14,212,421.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped again Saturday, decreasing to 3.11%.

Friday, Feb. 5

74 new COVID-19 deaths in state, 2,982 new cases

Massachusetts reached yet another milestone in the fight against coronavirus on Friday, when the state surpassed 14 million molecular tests administered to the public since the pandemic began, the state Department of Public Health announced.

The DPH reported that 74 more people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the pandemic began, Massachusetts has seen 14,563 people die while having confirmed cases of COVID-19.

State health officials also reported that there are 2,982 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, up from 2,602 new cases on Thursday. Friday’s case numbers pushed the total number of confirmed cases in the state since the pandemic began to 510,148. Currently, there are an estimated 59,934 active cases in the state.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 127,468 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19, up from 81,286 tests administered as of Thursday. In total, the state has given out 14,082,912 total molecular tests for the virus since the outbreak began.

Currently, there are 1,503 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Of those patients, 322 are in intensive care units while 196 are intubated. The average age of a patient hospitalized in Massachusetts for the coronavirus is 68 years old.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 3.16% Friday, down from 3.29% on Thursday.

74 new COVID-19 deaths in state, 2,602 new cases

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Thursday reported that 74 more people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the pandemic began, Massachusetts has seen 14,489 people die while having confirmed cases of COVID-19.

State health officials also reported that there are 2,602 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, pushing the total number of confirmed cases in the state since the pandemic began to 507,166. Currently, there are an estimated 61,864 active cases in the state.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 81,286 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. In total, the state has given out 13,955,444 total molecular tests for the virus since the outbreak began.

Currently, there are 1,554 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Of those patients, 335 are in intensive care units while 208 are intubated. The average age of a patient hospitalized in Massachusetts for the coronavirus is 68 years old.

2,186 new COVID-19 cases in state, 53 new deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Wednesday that there are 2,186 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth, pushing the total number of confirmed cases in Mass. since the pandemic began to 504,564. Currently, there are an estimated 64,431 active cases in the state.

Additionally, DPH reported that 53 more people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the pandemic began, Massachusetts has seen 14,415 people die while having confirmed cases of COVID-19.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 91,693 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. In total, the state has given out 13,874,158 total molecular tests for the virus since the outbreak began.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 3.3% on Wednesday.

Currently, there are 1,635 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in Massachusetts, DPH reported. Of those patients, 335 are in intensive care units while 203 are intubated. The average age of a patient hospitalized in Massachusetts for the coronavirus is 68 years old.

Tuesday, Feb. 2

DPH reports 45 new deaths, 1,963 new confirmed cases

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Tuesday that there are 1,963 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, down from 2,270 new cases reported Monday. Those new cases push the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 502,378. Currently, there are an estimated 67,650 active cases of the virus in Massachusetts.

DPH also reported Tuesday that 45 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, up from 30 deaths reported on Monday. In total, 14,362 people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of the coronavirus since the outbreak began.

On Tuesday, 1,631 people with confirmed cases of the virus remained hospitalized in Massachusetts. Of these patients, 353 remained in the intensive care unit and 224 were intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 61,265 new molecular tests have been administered for COVID-19 in Massachusetts, down from 88,302 new tests administered on Monday. Since the pandemic began, the state has given out 13,782,465 molecular tests for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped again to 3.44% on Tuesday, down from 3.53% on Monday.

Monday, Feb. 1

State eclipses 500K total confirmed cases since start of pandemic

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Monday that there are 2,270 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Those new cases push the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 that have been in the commonwealth since the pandemic began in March 2020 to 500,415. Currently, there are an estimated 71,929 active cases of the virus in Mass.

Additionally, DPH reported Monday that 30 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. In total, 14,317 people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of the coronavirus since the outbreak began in the commonwealth.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 88,302 new molecular tests have been administered for COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began, the state has given out 13,721,200 molecular tests for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped again to 3.53% on Monday.
