Boating season kicking off differently for some

MARSHFIELD, Mass. — Many local boards of health had set restrictions on allowing recreational boaters to use marinas during the pandemic. On Friday morning, Marshfield held an emergency meeting and lifted that restriction after the state started allowing golfing.

Boston 25 News Reporter caught up with boaters in Green Harbor.

Marshfield Harbor Master Mike DiMeo told us, “there is plenty of water to social distance on the high seas.”

There were signs up at marinas pushing the key message to stay 6 feet apart. Boaters should wear masks when passing by other boaters on the docks that are barely 6 feet wide.

Officer DiMeo says “we don’t want to see people out on the water moor up next to each other, raft up, having too much fun. Have as much fun as possible but social distance on the water as well.”

Most marinas are already planning to lower the number of people who can access crowded areas. Shuttle service will also have fewer riders at one time.

Officer DiMeo hopes, “it will be good for people to get out there and have a little stress relief."
