Lexington Police are warning residents about a group of people pretending to be government officials to gain access to residents' homes.

Police said the people are pretending to be from the "Department of Home Affairs," asking people to confirm valid identification for upcoming elections in order to gain access to their homes and rob them.

Lexington Police warned residents that the department does not exist, and said there is no legitimate government group doing election surveys.

Police said to call police if someone knocks at a door claiming to be a part of the group, or if groups of people are canvassing a neighborhood.
