Fitchburg parents indicted in 6-year-old girl's death

WORCESTER, Mass. — A Worcester Grand Jury indicted two parents in connection to the death of their 6-year-old daughter after she was found unresponsive in the family Fitchburg home.

Shana Pedroso, 38, was indicted for murder and her husband Marvin Brito, 38, was indicted for manslaughter. They will be arraigned in Worcester Superior Court at a later date.

The girl had been found unresponsive by police at 139 Stoneybrook Road in Fitchburg on April 10. She was rushed to UMass Memorial Hospital in Leominster where she was later pronounced dead. The girl's 9-year-old brother, who was also home at the time, was also taken to the hospital with several injuries.

Recently, the Office of the Medical Examiner determined the girl's death, caused by blunt force injuries, was a homicide.

On April 11, Pedroso and Brito were arraigned in Fitchburg District Court on several assault and abuse charges. In August, they were indicted by a grand jury on charges related to the injuries suffered by the 9-year-old boy. That case is pending.
