ROXBURY, Mass. — Firefighters battled a 3-alarm fire in a brownstone on Linwood Square in Roxbury, in a unit where people should not have been living.
Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Flynn said the fire was contained to a single family unit in the building and two people were inside at the time of the fire but made it out safely.
Flynn said the unit was deemed dangerous by the city and people should not have been living in it and arson investigators are at the scene.
The 3-story wood frame house had heavy fire showing when firefighters responded around 5:20 a.m. Heavy smoke could be seen throughout the area around 6 Linwood Square.
