• Resident, firefighter injured in 3-alarm blaze in Dorchester


    BOSTON - Crews battled a three-alarm fire at a building on Columbia Road on Wednesday morning.

    Fire was showing from the third floor of the building at 688 Columbia Rd. in Dorchester.

    It appears the three-story building houses a mix of residential apartments and businesses with Restaurant Laura, a Cape Verdean restaurant, on the ground floor.

    Firefighters responded to the fire just before 8 a.m. Not too long after they arrived on scene, a third alarm was struck for the blaze.

    All residents were safely evacuated from the building. According to firefighters, the majority of the fire was contained to the third floor.

    One firefighter and one resident were injured in the process.

    The Boston Fire Department told Boston 25 News the firefighter hurt has a leg injury and is being treated for it. 

    Eight residents have been displaced by the fire and damages to the building are estimated at around $750,000. 

    The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
