FD: Manhole cover explodes in Cambridge, no injuries

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A manhole cover explosion in Cambridge left about 2000 Eversource customers without power, but didn’t cause any other major problems, according to the fire department.

The manhole exploded shortly before 7 a.m., Cambridge Fire tweeted Saturday morning. The cover blew off at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Willow Street.

Fire officials say there were no injuries and not streets had to be shut down after the explosion.

However, Eversource was working to restore power to around 2,000 customers in Cambridge, which was completed before 10 a.m.
