Family escapes after 3-alarm fire rips through Canton home

A house was destroyed by a 3-alarm fire on Boathouse Road in Canton Wednesday night, but the family that lives there was able to make it out safely.

Firefighters were called to the home at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived on scene, heavy fire was seen coming from the attic.

All six residents were able to safely get out before firefighters arrived, thanks to smoke detectors.

Officials say since a majority of the fire was coming from the attic, it was difficult to get water onto the flames and the roof eventually collapsed.

The fire was declared under control by 6 a.m. Thursday.

Fire officials say the fire started on the rear deck of the home and traveled up the wall into the attic. The fire was ruled accidental.

No one was injured, but the home is a total loss.
