• East Bridgewater man arrested for allegedly striking police officer

    EAST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - A 23-year-old man from East Bridgewater was arrested after allegedly assaulting a police officer in the town on Sunday afternoon, according to a release from the department. 

    That suspect, who police did not identify, has been charged with Assault and Battery of a Police Officer. Authorities took him to a local hospital for evaluation; he will be booked and arraigned following his release.

    Police say that the suspect struck an officer above the eye during a conversation near Spring Street in the town. Officials initially responded to the area for report of a medical emergency at 3:38 p.m. 

    Officials arrested the suspect 30 minutes after the incident because the suspect had fled the scene. The impacted officer suffered a minor injury from the strike and was evaluated at a nearby hospital as a precaution.
