KINGSTON, Mass. — A dump truck crash snarled the evening drive for Route 3 commuters.
On Wednesday, during the height of the evening rush, a dump truck crashed into the Route 3A overpass near the Duxbury-Kingston line.

With the truck wedged up against the bridge for several hours, traffic backed up for at least four miles as the southbound side was closed between exits 10 and 9.
Finally, just before 8 p.m., crews cleared the scene.
State Police say it appears the driver was merging onto Route 3 southbound from the exit 10 ramp with the dump bed up. They say he struck the bridge almost immediately.

Boston 25 News approached the man who was driving the truck, but he would not comment on what happened.
MassDOT says it will now need to inspect the bridge that runs above Route 3 to make sure there is no long-term damage.
No one was injured in the crash.
