Driver facing multiple charges after crashing into cars, building in Ayer

AYER, Mass. — A car crashed into multiple cars in Ayer before smashing right into a building.

"It was pretty scary actually hearing it all happen, like she jumped a curb on Main Street as the police were trying to get to her," said Sarah Paige, who was watching TV with her boyfriend Sunday when they heard a car crash, just after noon, outside their downtown apartment.

"That's when we heard the crash, bang boom, looked outside and saw the vehicle," said Kevin Humphreys.

Witnesses say they saw the car hit the curb and a parked car on Main Street. Then the driver turned down Washington Street, hitting three more cars before she slammed into a building.

"We heard the first one hit, and then you could hear the engine revving and then she hit two more cars," Paige said.

Neighbors say luckily no one else was hurt since there's usually a good amount of people walking around downtown.

"But there's so many restaurants and it being Mother's Day there were a lot more people out and about than usual," Paige said.

Ayer Police said the driver was under the influence and will face several charges for this crash.

"She should be held responsible because all these cars are parked, they weren't moving," Paige said.

The Ayer Police Chief said, along with OUI, the driver will also be charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failing to stop for an officer, among other charges.
