Driver crashes while trying to pick phone up off floor, police say

SHIRLEY, Mass. — A driver struck a pole and rolled his car over while trying to pick up his phone off the floor Monday afternoon, Shirley Police Chief Sam Santiago told Boston 25 News.

Santiago said the man took his eyes off the road trying to retrieve his phone he dropped on the floor. He then struck the pole on Leominster Street, between Catacunemaug Road and Morin Street, and rolled his car over.

According to Santiago, the driver was not injured at the scene, but he was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
