Disabled veteran scammed by fake state troopers who came to his door

BROCKTON — Ring doorbells provide an eye to the outdoors offering protection and a sense of security.

But in Brockton, one woman says that was turned on its head by two creative crooks who fooled Lindsay Franzoni’s father, who is a disabled veteran.

“They were showing fake state trooper badges,” said Franzoni.

She said two men rang her father’s doorbell.

“He answered and two very well dressed, well spoken gentlemen said they were from the State Police,” she said.

They asked to see her father’s Ring video.

“They said a crime had been committed towards where his doorbell faced,” Lindsay Franzoni said.

Her Dad handed over his phone.

“What they were actually doing was scanning for his bank information,” she said.

Lindsay says they stole her father’s information, and eventually emptied his bank accounts.

And then erased any trace of them ringing his doorbell.

“They were able to disable the video and delete the footage while they had the phone,” she said.

Her father now feels uneasy in his own home.

“He’s an elderly retired veteran, disabled veteran, who has now been victimized in his own home,” she said.

Lindsay wanted to warn others so she reached out to Boston 25 News.

“We don’t want to see anyone else go through this,” she said.
